Holidays

High Holidays:

At Greenwich Reform Synagogue, we delve deeply into the rhythm of the Jewish year with our hearts and minds. Beginning with Selichot, our High Holiday services include beautiful music from Cantor Michelle Rubin and our GRS choir, poetry, contemplative prayers and sermons by Rabbi Jordie Gerson.

On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Gerson leads a contemplative walk in Pomerance Park, open to the entire community.

On Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, we repent and ask for forgiveness while fasting (if one is able). In addition to the penitential prayer services throughout the day, we offer an afternoon symposium taught by a guest scholar.

Other holiday celebrations:

At GRS, we celebrate holidays including Sukkot/Simchat Torah, Pesach and Shavuot in many ways. From Sukkot’s Pizza in the Hut, to dancing, singing, unscrolling and exploring the Torah on Simchat Torah, to a Matza Bake and second night community Seder on Pesach and learning sessions on Shavuot, our holidays are always joyous. We celebrate Chanukah with parties, dinners and daily outside candle lightings on our giant Chanukiah (menorah). Our Purim events include a Shpiel, Megillah reading and multigenerational festivities.

Please check the GRS calendar for a listing of these and other holiday observances and festivities.

GRS membership includes tickets to all High Holy Day services. Please click here to learn more about membership and to see a dues schedule.
